The London Workplace Cycle Challenge, 2007.

Tour de France, Tour de France...

Transport for London challenged the capitals companies to get more employees cycling, more often. They, therefore invited people to take part in a city-wide cycle challenge, between 6 – 29 July 2007!

We worked with TfL and To The Point design agency to host the site and put together the back end mechanisms that allowed participants to enter the challange. it also helped TfL to manage the registrations and put together mailing lists generated by data captured from the website. Participants first registered for an information pack and were added to a list.

The challenge's organisers were notified by email as the list of registrants grew and downloaded a list of this interested in taking part. As information packs were sent out, the administrators ticked off those who been sent the information.

As the challenge was nearing, emails were sent out to ask people to enter. Participants came back to the site and completed their registration and then started created an online list of their team. Each team was able to note the names of those taking part, and set them up for one of three challenges. They were also able to specify the size of the t-shirt they would receive. At this point the TfL organizers were able to monitor who have received each t-shirt by the back end tools we had developed for them. As the challenge went on, the team's administrator, known as 'Directeur Sportif', recorded their mileage on the website.

Once the challenge was over, the teams were instructed to submit their results and then invited to answer a questionnaire about the challenge. They were also invited to upload pictures of their experience over duration of the challenge. For us this was a great change to develop some software for a key organisation in London along with forging a good relationship with To The Point who are a London based design agency.
